| I treat water, be it pond, stream or feature, as I would any other decorative element in the garden – make it ‘part of the whole’. Style and position should fit in with the rest of the garden. I see so many ponds for instance, that end up as a ‘stone doughnut’ in a lawn – a single line of stone circling the water with no significant planting to link it with the rest of the garden. |

| I try to give ponds some kind of seasonal interest as I would any other part of the garden and give it a lushness you would expect from most waterside planting in nature. |
